One man is dead and a woman is injured following a domestic disturbance that began in Waterboro on Sunday afternoon.
Elizabeth Rideout, who lives on Lakeview Drive in Waterboro, suffered a gunshot wound to her shoulder during a domestic dispute at her home in the Lake Arrowhead community at around 2 p.m., York County Sheriff William L. King Jr. said in a release.
Rideout was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.
Deputies at the scene attempted to contact her husband, Jeremy Rideout, but he didn’t respond, King said. King said authorities later obtained a warrant to enter the home.
When officers entered late Sunday night, they found Jeremy Rideout dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
King said the investigation into the circumstances that led to the shooting will continue.
New Dam Road was closed to traffic Sunday from Victoria Lane to Imperial Road and remained closed late Sunday night.
Deputies from York and Cumberland County, as well as Maine State Police troopers, the Southern Maine Special Response Team and Emergency Services units responded to the scene.
