Each day our paper arrives, regardless of the weather, in a plastic bag. While the newspaper decomposes quickly, the bag takes almost 1,000 years to degrade in a landfill.
In the spirit of creating less waste, I would like to propose that the Press Herald deliver its daily newspapers in compostable bags. These bags could be put in our household compost bins or used by dog owners for their animal waste (which litters the city, parks and trails) so both the bags and newspapers would degrade in good time.
