KENNEBUNKPORT – Voters here approved an amendment to the Kennebunk River ordinance that clarifies the definition of commercial fishing vessels 1,884-372.
In all, voters in Kennebunkport approved five referendum questions Nov. 8, including the updated Comprehensive Plan, 1,798-472.
A change to the administrative code adds RSU 21 directors to a list of those who may be removed from elected office. The code change approval, which was 1,338-939, also removes the requirement that the town meeting moderator be a registered voter of Kennebunkport.
Changes in the shellfish ordinance were approved 2,045-280 and require people apply in person to the town clerk for a license. It exempts children 12 and younger from needing a license, but the young digger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who holds a current Kennebunkport recreational shellfish license. The total combined daily limit for adults and children is one peck per license.
A change to the land use ordinance was approved 1,489-771. It revises the method for those wishing to rent rooms, called residential rental accommodations. Currently the ability to rent rooms is a conditional use subject to review by the zoning board of appeals; the change places approvals in the purview of the code enforcement office following a property inspection and complete permit application. All other performance and appeal provisions are unchanged, the sample ballot states.
