CLASS D

Who: North Yarmouth Academy (10-7) vs Madawaska (15-2)

When: 10 a.m. Saturday

Where: Deering High, Portland

Outlook: Seeing NYA in this game is nothing unusual – it’s the fourth straight season the Panthers have made it to the state final – but it may be something of a surprise given how the year started. NYA was 2-5 on Sept. 24, but has won eight of 10 games since to reach the brink of a championship once again. Twins Cooper and Daxton St. Hilaire had big games in the South final, as did Wyatt Thomas and Jack Byrne. … Madawaska has scored six or more goals in 11 of its wins, including all three playoff victories. NYA will need to have an answer for Carsen Cyr, who scored five goals in the North final. … Madawaska is 0-8 in state finals, losing in Class A (1975, 1979), Class B (1982), and Class C (1992, 1998, 2004, 2007, 2013). This is its first Class D appearance.
