The Portland Fire Department responded to a structure fire that broke out Wednesday night in an apartment building at 249 St. John Street.

The two-alarm fire broke out around 7:45 p.m., according to Portland Fire Department spokesman Sean Donaghue. The building is located across the street from Union Station Plaza. It was brought under control around 8:30 p.m.

Donaghue said the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. The fire started on the first floor and spread to the upper floors before being extinguished.

He said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
