Betty (McFadden) Bibber

Betty (McFadden) Bibber 1927 – 2022 BRUNSWICK – Betty(McFadden) Bibber, 95, died on Oct. 20, 2022 . She was born on Jan. 23, 1927 in Lewiston, the younger daughter of Alton Jones McFadden and L. Mae Patterson McFadden. Betty spent her childhood in Auburn and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1944. She attended Burdett Business College in Boston, Mass., graduating in 1946. Betty was first employed by the P.J. Cronin Insurance Agency in Lewiston. She later joined her father’s Lincoln Mercury car dealership in Auburn, Park Motor Mart, where she worked as a bookkeeper. After her marriage, Betty worked part-time as a bookkeeper at several other professional offices. Betty married her high school classmate, John P. Bibber, on Sept. 2, 1950. John was a Maine town manager for his entire career. His successive jobs brought Betty and John to Islesboro, Berwick, Old Town, and finally to Brunswick in 1961. Along the way, Betty and John’s family grew to include three daughters. Betty enjoyed all of the communities she lived in. Betty’s focus was on raising her family, but she also made time for many volunteer activities. Early on she was a Girl Scout leader, and she volunteered at Mid Coast Hospital for 25 years. She was also a volunteer for many years at Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick as well as at the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath. Betty loved traveling and biking, and she was an avid bridge and tennis player. Betty and John enjoyed many Elderhostel programs, including bicycling trips in Europe. In recent years she especially enjoyed regular Sunday morning breakfast outings with dear, old neighborhood friends. Betty was married to John for almost 65 years before his passing in 2015. She is survived by her three daughters, Alison Berry and husband, David of Bowdoinham, Paula Tefft and husband, Dennis of Brunswick, Meredith Bibber and husband, Chris Goss of Seattle, Wash. Betty also leaves behind four grandchildren, Nathan Tefft and wife, Rachel, Alicia Tefft, Matthew Goss, and Louisa Goss; as well as three great-grandchildren, Molly, Isla, and Samuel Tefft. Betty’s family would like to thank the staff at Avita of Brunswick and the staff and volunteers from CHANS Home Health and Hospice for all of their care and support.
