Ernest O. Knop

TRAVELER’S REST, S.C. – Ernest O. Knop died on Sept. 13, 2022, in Traveler’s Rest, S.C.

He was born July 25, 1935, in East Chicago, Ind., the son of William and Gertrude Knop, who emigrated to the U.S. from Pomerania in eastern Germany. He was the beloved husband of Carol (Byerley) Knop, for 64 years.

A Navy veteran, he spent his career in logistics, serving in leadership positions at Unilever in Indiana and Chinet in Maine.

Upon retirement, he established a wood working business that he operated until his death. Ernie’s handmade trellises and pyramids can be seen on properties from Bar Harbor to Provincetown.

A gregarious and helpful man, Ernie had lifelong passions for baseball, basketball, and German cars. He leaves many friends and colleagues.

His wife, Carol, preceded him in death.

Ernest was the father of Robert Knop of Traveler’s Rest, S.C., Cindy Greeley of Scarborough; and grandfather and great-grandfather of eight.
