As a female and human in Ward 2 in Westbrook, I was alarmed by my sitting representative on the City Council to be dismissive of a city/town’s obligation to stand up for the rights of its constituents. To believe that “the other side of the argument” has a right to decide the rights of bodily autonomy for any single resident (male, female, nonbinary) is not the type of leadership we need for Westbrook moving forward. In addition, Mayor Michael Foley’s support of Victor Chau speaks to his own biases on the issue and clouds his judgment for whom would represent the Westbrook of the future.
Jess Moninski will, without a doubt, be the voice for all humans in our growing city.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
