As a Westbrook Ward 2 resident, I was alarmed when my city councilor, Victor Chau, voted alone against a proclamation in support of reproductive health. In his statement at the meeting he explained that one reason to vote no was his representation of those on the “other side of the argument.” The other side of this argument is that reproductive health care is not a human right, and that is indefensible.

Believing that all have a right to an opinion does not mean that every opinion is right. Our community leaders need to have the courage to take a stand for what’s right for the people. I urge my neighbors to vote for Jess Moninski this November. Jess is a strong advocate for our schools, affordable housing and human rights. I know that when our rights are under attack, Jess will have the courage to stand with us.
