Florence E. Whynot

MEXICO – Florence E. Whynot, 94, died Saturday Oct. 8, 2022, on the day of her 72nd wedding anniversary. Born in Paris in July of 1928, she was the daughter of Alfred and Iona (Littlehale) Andrews. She graduated from West Paris High School and from Rumford Community Hospital School of Nursing. She married Merwyn Whynot on Oct. 8, 1950 and the couple had four children.

Florence worked at the Rumford Hospital until 1955, when she became a mother and homemaker. In 1969 she returned to work as a school nurse in Mexico until retiring.

She volunteered at St. John Elementary School after retirement and with Androscoggin Home Health and Hospice for more than 25 years. She was also an active, longtime member of the Rumford First Baptist Church.

Florence was a loving wife and caregiver and a meticulous housekeeper. She enjoyed sewing and crafts and excelled at the art of rug braiding.

She took college courses at the University of Maine and kept current on public health research. Physical fitness and nutrition were important to her and she loved outdoor activities.

Florence is survived by her husband, Merwyn; daughters Eileen, Janet and husband, Bruce, her sons Thomas and wife, Lisa, and Phil and life partner, Tammy. She leaves behind six grandchildren, Darcie, Jared and wife, Tia, Stacy, Christina and husband, Byron, Colby and wife, Alysia and Jill; and seven great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Nov. 5 at the United Baptist Church at 1 Elm St., in Topsham (corner of Main and Elm Streets). Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m., service at 11 a.m., followed by a social lunch. Arrangements are by Meader & Son Funeral Home, Rumford.
