Halloween Spooktacular
Spooky season is here! George E. Jack will host a “Halloween Spooktacular” for grades 6 and under from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29. Come dressed in your favorite Halloween costume and enjoy free games, music, prizes and treats organized by the Parks and Rec staff.
There will also be a pumpkin contest at the event. If interested, bring your carved or decorated pumpkin in for entry. As a reminder, adults must accompany their children, and all attendees must wear masks indoors. The event is free, but registration is required. If you would like to register your child, go to standishme.myrec.com for more info.
Spirit Fest
A Spirit Fest organized by the Standish Historical Society will be held Friday, Oct. 28, and Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Old Red Church. The Spirit Fest committee is seeking spirit vendors for products and services that will allow attendees to explore mind, body, and soul. If you are interested in contributing as a spirit vendor, fill out the form provided at sites.google.com/view/standishhistoricalsociety.
The festival will include cemetery tours at 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and a paranormal investigation of the Old Red Church from 7 to 11 p.m. both evenings. The investigation will address the history of the church and take visitors through the first and second floors and the corner cemetery as paranormal investigators use equipment to attempt to draw out spirits.
Cider, doughnuts, and muffins will be provided. The total proceeds from the investigation will go toward the upkeep of the church and cemetery. Tickets and bookings for the investigation and the cemetery tour can be found on the website.
On Saturday, spirit vendors will be available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., guided tours of the church will be presented at noon, 1 and 2 p.m., and a Curators Challenge Scavenger Hunt will take place at the Old Red Church at 3 p.m.
