Library friends to meet

The Friends of Walker Memorial Library will meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, at the library, 800 Main St.

The friends spent its annual outing in Buxton during that town’s 250th birthday.

“We walked around and enjoyed the day, the parade, and had lunch. It was a fun day for all,” said Kelly Day of the friends group.

Halloween goes on

Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St., is hosting a city Halloween event at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28.

The event replaces Halloween on Main Street, which was the Westbrook-Gorham Community Chamber of Commerce has canceled for this year because of the downtown construction, according to Greg Post, Westbrook community services director.

“They’re very hopeful that, with the new Westbrook Common project completed and a new parking garage in the downtown, this exciting community event will return next October and for years to come,” Post said in an email.

“In the meantime, the Westbrook Community Center is planning an event that will replace Halloween on Main Street this year and complement it in the future,” Post wrote.

This year’s event will feature candy, a costume contest, a haunted hallway, games and a food truck.

Trick or Trunk 

Batman will make a special appearance at Trick or Trunk, scheduled for noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at the  American Legion Post 197, 300 Conant St. The event will include  raffles and refreshments.

Food truck Fridays

Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St., will host food trucks at 11 a.m. Fridays through Dec. 16. Mow’s Munchies will be there Oct. 21.

Food trucks will be parked at the front left corner of the building between the Westbrook Community Center and Congin School. There is no seating, but a handful of stand-up bistro tables will be available.
