We have resided in Scarborough for 30 years. During this time, we have seen many positive changes and growth in town. Scarborough is now a thriving suburban community with a robust commercial tax base. One result of this growth has been the steady increase in valuation. At $4,998,750,000, Scarborough ranks fourth in Maine in equalized value, behind only Portland, South Portland and York. We have excellent schools and town services available to the families and citizens who live here.
Unfortunately, our Scarborough Public Library, which serves as a central hub for our students, families and citizens, has not experienced the same growth and expansion as the rest of our community. We need to expand the library to meet the needs of our community, now and for the next 30 years and beyond. Our library provides key resources, services and meeting opportunities for our students, young families and retirees.
Please join us in supporting the Scarborough Public Library expansion.

Comments are not available on this story. Read more about why we allow commenting on some stories and not on others.
We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
You can read more here about our commenting policy and terms of use. More information is also found on our FAQs.
