I’m writing to encourage my fellow Freeport voters to reelect John Egan to the Town Council. Earlier this year, residents concerned about the heating of our planet formed Freeport Climate Action Now. Its mission is to promote and support local action. No one has been more supportive of our efforts than Egan. He listens. And he encourages residents to keep asking the council to do what it can to help Freeport deal with this existential crisis. In large part through his efforts, Freeport may soon have a sustainability coordinator to guide local action.
Egan also is deeply involved in helping Freeport sustain its economy and meet the needs of its residents, young and old. Members of town boards and community organizations tell me how important his support is to them.
A vote for John Egan for reelection is a vote for a person who will continue to help bring out the best in Freeport.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
