Ann (Rohland) Dickey

CAPE ELIZABETH – Ann (Rohland) Dickey passed away on Oct. 11, 2022, surrounded by family and love after a lengthy illness.

Ann Esther Rohland was born in Portland on Nov. 22, 1948, to John Marshall and Anna Stanton Rohland. Ann was an only child but was part of a large extended family. Later in life, Ann wanted to learn the roots of her large family and became skilled in tracking down generations of her ancestors, a passion that she shared with her daughter, Bridget.

Ann grew up in the West End of Portland and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1967. Ann went to work for the New England Telephone Company and remained there until her retirement. Once retired Ann became a volunteer at The Maine Irish Heritage Center which is located at the former St. Dominic’s Church where she was a past communicant. Ann spent countless hours there doing research and was so proud to be part of the group that helped raise funds to replace the church bell that had fallen in 2006.

Ann enjoyed many trips to Florida. Refusing to fly, Ann would leave days before her family either by bus, train, or car. She loved to soak up the sun on the beach and wade into the water…but only to her knees.

Ann was a lover of animals, especially dogs and cats. There was always a dog and multiple cats in her home. Ann was especially fond of her daughter, Allison’s chihuahua, Lucy.

Ann was a “foodie”. She mostly loved desserts but local Maine seafood and Pier Fries were among her favorites.

Ann had a love for classic rock and roll, one of her favorites being The Rolling Stones, she would say “Gimme Mick until I’m Sick”. She saw the movie “Pretty Woman” at least six times at the theaters, and enjoyed watching cooking shows, reading, and cooking but above all Ann loved her family. Nothing gave her more joy than their visits and her outings with them.

Ann will be missed dearly by her husband, Andy Dickey; her children and their spouses, Bridget Misemer and husband, KC, Jennifer Tinsman and husband, Patrick, Jessica Bruyere Pokora and husband, Mark, Allison Dickey, and her favorite son, Andrew Dickey. Ann was “nana” and “nonnie” to Tess Misemer, Christopher, Ashley, Brendan and Jake Tinsman, and Kaia Chase. Recently, Ann became a great-grandmother to Owen who brought her so much peace and joy.

Ann’s family would like to express our gratitude to the staff at Falmouth By The Sea, The Fresenius Kidney Care Center, and Hospice of Southern Maine for the care and compassion that was shown to Ann over the years.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A celebration of Ann’s life will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m. at the Maine Irish Heritage Center, formerly St. Dominic’s Church, 34 Gray St., Portland, with parking available at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland.
