I’m inspired to write after reading the Maine Millennial column by Victoria Hugo-Vidal on Sept. 25 (“The Maine Millennial: Kids cannot learn until they feel secure”) about kids needing to feel safe in order to learn and Paul LePage’s efforts to restrict and regulate public schools.

It reminds me of the atmosphere in the Maine legislature during his tenure – best illustrated by the remarks of legislators after he left office. I spoke with a few who, to a person, commented on the change of atmosphere after “LeRage” left. It seemed like everyone breathed sighs of relief due to less contention and vitriol.

Also reminds me of my experience at Marden’s when LePage was general manager. Every Marden’s I went into was filthy. I jokingly commented that it seemed to be store policy that they were unkempt. It seems this is a theme. Where LePage goes, animosity, chaos and lack of cleanliness follow. Is this what we want for our state again?
