 Goldberg speaks at post

Capt. Steve Goldberg, a 15-year veteran of the Westbrook Police Department, was the guest speaker for October at American Legion Post 62. Goldberg spoke about a variety of issues, according to Post Commander Dennis Marrotte.

“A growing city, Westbrook Police Department is working with traffic and construction issues, drugs, homeless people, young people, and immigrant families,” Marrotte said.

Goldberg is a native of the Greater Boston area and a 2007 graduate of Saint Joseph’s College in Standish. He has worked in many areas and departments within the Westbrook Police Department, along with working with the American Legion on organizing Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies.

Highland Lake Grange secretary Debbie Ivers on Sept. 29 presented the 2022 Community Service Award to Sandy Cort.

“Cort has volunteered, often in leadership positions, with many organizations over the years,” according to a Grange Facebook post. “They include Learning Disabilities Association of Maine, Environmental Health Strategy Center, Friends of the Presumpscot River, Congregation Bet Ha’Am, and she worked on cleanup effort at a local cemetery.”

Sandy and her husband, Bruce, live in Westbrook.

Food truck Fridays

Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St., is hosting food trucks at 11 a.m. on Fridays through Dec. 16. Momma Baldacci’s will be there Friday, Oct. 14.

Food trucks will be parked at the front left corner of the building. There is no seating, but a few standup bistro tables will be available.

The American Journal reported on Oct. 11, 1972, that Gladys Gagnon chaired a rummage sale for the Westbrook United Methodist Women.
