One of the most troubling and still understated threats of our time is the ongoing threat to democracy and democratic institutions. The years ahead will continue to test the strength of American democracy, and it is of utmost importance that we elect leaders who are going to expend their power and influence toward the maintenance of democracy and freedom.
State Rep. Morgan Rielly has demonstrated in his time in Augusta that he will meet this moment of crisis with effective action. Sitting on the Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee, he stopped numerous anti-voting bills that have recently been proliferating throughout the states. He co-sponsored legislation expanding access to our democracy and making our elections secure. He supported ongoing absentee voting, foreign contribution ban, online voter registration, and a corporate contribution ban.
I urge my Westbrook neighbors to join me in supporting Morgan Rielly for a second term as our state representative.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
