VIENNA — A silver alert has been issued for a 71-year-old man who has been missing since Thursday.

Michael Holmes was last seen leaving Tower Road on Oct. 6 and had planned to go to Winthrop, according to Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety. Holmes has not been seen by his family since.
Holmes was reported as missing to the Kennebec County Sheriff’s office Saturday at around 10 a.m., but a Silver Alert was not issued until Tuesday morning.
“The silver alert is only supposed to be activated after an exhaustive search and obviously in every situation that can be different depending on the circumstances,” Moss said.
The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office did not respond to inquiries about the search.
Moss said that Holmes has “cognitive issues.”
He has brown hair, blue eyes, is 6′ feet tall and 225 lbs. Anyone who knows Holmes’ whereabouts is asked to call 911 or the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office at 624-7076.
