South Portland has launched an Electrify Everything! rebate program to help low- and moderate-income residents adopt cleaner, energy-efficient technologies.
The rebates cover electric vehicles, e-bikes, heating and cooling systems, among other items. Residents can get up to $2,000 per household through the program, including $100 off an electric lawn mower, $400 off a hot water heat pump, and $300 off an e-bike.
The Electrify Everything! program is part of the city’s mission to become carbon neutral by 2050. In South Portland, 19% of greenhouse gas emissions come from residential buildings, and 32% come from transportation, according to a press release from the city.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
