The Scarborough Town Council is scheduled to take a final vote Wednesday, Sept. 7 on the local library’s bid to get its $13.9 million expansion project on the ballot this fall.

If passed by the council on Sept. 7, a bond order not to exceed $13 million will go to referendum Nov. 8. The remainder would be raised by the Scarborough Public Library’s board of trustees.

The project features a two-story addition with the teen and children’s sections on the first floor and meeting spaces and staff rooms on the second. The current library building will retain the section that serves adults.

If the project is approved, library services will be moved when construction begins in fall 2023.

The meeting will take place at Town Hall at 7 p.m. and can be viewed on Zoom and the Scarborough Maine Public Meetings page on YouTube.
