Kattia Maria Lomando
GORHAM – Kattia Maria Lomando, 55, of Gorham, passed away on Aug. 26, 2022 at her home after a year-long struggle with esophageal cancer. Kattia was born on June 13, 1967 to Cecilia Rimola Hidalgo and Rafael Salazar Montoya in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Kattia’s childhood dream to live in the United States was realized in her late teens when she moved to the Miami, Fla. area. She lived in South Florida until 2006 when she and her wife relocated to Maine to be closer to family.
Kattia was a dental assistant at the University of New England where she was known for her contagious laugh, lunchtime games of bingo, occasional silly pranks on her coworkers, and soccer with the dental students.
Ever the thrill-seeker and adventurist, Kattia loved skiing at Sugarloaf and Sunday River, traveling, and visiting theme parks where no rollercoaster was too scary. She was so proud of Costa Rica and would jump at the chance to help anyone with their itinerary.
Kattia is survived by her wife, Karen DiDonato; her parents; her sister, Ana Cecilia Salazar Rimola and husband Charles Quiros Bryan; and her beloved niece and nephews Gabriel Bryan Salazar, Samantha Bryan Salazar, Ryan DiDonato, and Cameron DiDonato.
She will be dearly missed by her wife, dog Winter Belle, cherished family members, dear friends, and all who knew her.
Services will be held on Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. at First Parish Church in Gorham as well as in Costa Rica.
Her family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) in Scarborough. Kattia would often leave NECS by saying “Thank you, angels.”
