John Nicholas DelloStritto
YARMOUTH – John Nicholas DelloStritto of Yarmouth and a former 65-year resident of Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home with his family on Aug. 22, 2022.
John was born on July 1, 1940, in Hamden, Conn., the son of the late Fiore and Filomena DelloStritto and the brother of the late Donald DelloStritto. He graduated from Hamden High School in 1958 and received a pharmacy degree from the University of Connecticut in 1963.
John married the love of his life, Mary Hartnett, on June 20, 1964. They were married for 50 years and have three children, Kate (Mike) Schoenle of Plymouth, Mich., Jill (Miguel) Velazquez of Yarmouth, and Paul DelloStritto of Meriden, Conn.
John is survived by 11 grandchildren.
John and Mary lived in Northford, Conn. for 40 years before moving to Maine in 2005. John was best known and loved for his friendliness, sense of humor and complete devotion to his family and friends. He enjoyed family vacations at the beach, traveling with Mary, and watching any game or activity that his children were doing. He was encouraging of everything his children did and enjoyed getting to know their friends.
John had a gift for forging deep and lasting friendships. His friends knew they could count on him to share a laugh or support them through difficult times. Throughout his life, people were drawn to his outgoing, warm and genuine nature.
John had a varied career in many pharmacy settings. He owned his own store for several years before moving into pharmaceutical sales. The majority of his career was spent in hospital pharmacy, where John was known and valued for his expertise in compounding and a team-oriented management style. He enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships he made particularly at the Yale Hospital pharmacies and Bridgeport Hospital.
John loved sports and played hockey throughout his childhood. He captained his Hamden High School team and went on to play at UCONN. He was an avid fan and season ticket holder for the New York Giants for over 25 years, and was fiercely loyal to the New York Yankees, New York Rangers and UCONN basketball teams throughout his life. In later years, he enjoyed golf and made good friends during his time on the links in Maine.
John enjoyed cooking Italian food, working in the yard and doing challenging jigsaw puzzles. He prioritized serving others as a member of the Knights of Columbus, as a blood donor, and as PTO chairman of Northford, Conn. schools for many years.
A wake will be held at Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave. in Hamden, Conn. from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2 and Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Monica’s Church, 1331 Middletown Ave., Northford, Conn. at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3.
