Beverly J. Malick

BRUNSWICK – Beverly was a wonderful woman and went to heaven to be with her husband on July 7, 2022. She was 96 and we were lucky to have had her as our mother, grandmother and friend. People have said that she was so strong and “feisty” which gave her the will to overcome so much. She was a very social person and loved music, especially the big bands and Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra and others.

Beverly was born on Aug. 5, 1925, to Harlan and Elva Irish in Portland. She had beautiful auburn red hair which was admired by all.

Beverly went to a dance at the Masonic Hall, 415 Congress Street in Portland one evening and there she met a very handsome Marine named John. He asked her to dance and from then on their love story began. They married on Dec. 29, 1945 in a blizzard. She was a domestic engineer and took care of the entire family.

As a youngster she played all sports with the neighborhood gang. She knew stats of the Boston Red Sox and watched them along with the New England Patriots. She also was in plays with her parents and sister which she was proud of. At Deering High School Bev was the first to wear slacks to school with a few other girls as she was freezing in the winter months. Her picture was on the front page of the Portland newspaper.

Her friends knew her as “Bev” and loved her sense of humor and her infectious laugh. Many times she was the life of the party which she had planned. She and Dad had neighborhood friends to their home for New Year’s Eve and other special occasions. She was generous and would give away anything to help someone in need. Her children and grandchildren were her light. She adored them all and remembered the times that she shared with each of them.

Beverly leaves her son, Stephen Malick and his wife Anne, her daughter, Jane Malick, and her daughter, Lisa Filippelli and her husband, Peter; grandchildren Paul Malick, Andrew Malick, Melissa Roberts, Amanda Brook, Chad McCatherin and Michael Filippelli. She was also blessed with 14 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 66 years, John Malick Sr.; her sister, Eleanor Young; and her oldest son, John Malick.

Our family would like to acknowledge and thank the wonderful team at Avita of Brunswick Memory Care for the outstanding care and compassion that they gave to our Mom and Grammy. They loved her so much and mentioned how her personality made them laugh throughout her time there. CHANS Hospice of Brunswick cared for her as well and we are truly grateful for them and being there with her under difficult circumstances.

Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice

We miss her so much.
