Watch out for bears
Two bears passed within a few feet of a Fogg Road home and a porch where a woman was reading on Aug. 20 in one of several bear sitings reported on Buxton Community Board recently.
“I almost had a heart attack,” the woman posted. “They were so close, I flew into the house and I guess that scared them as they ran into the side yard.”
One report said a cub and mama bear on Aug. 20 crossed Route 112 at Skip Road and traveled in the direction of Bonny Eagle Pond. Another pair was recently reported in the vicinity of Bonny Eagle High School on Saco Road.

A mattress fundraiser is being held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, at Bonny Eagle High School on Saco Road in Standish.
The fundraiser will benefit field hockey, soccer, Project Graduation and music groups.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
