Kathleen “Kathy” R. Bailey

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. – Kathy passed away in the early morning hours of July 12, 2022, after a brief hospital stay.

Kathy was born in Portland to Clyde and Elizabeth (Bryant) Bailey and graduated from Windham High School in 1966. After graduating high school, Kathy studied at the University of Maine in Fort Kent and University of Maine in Farmington.

She had a long and distinguished 30-plus year career with the U.S. Postal Service, where she was the first female postal carrier in the Portland office. She also worked with a special task force which developed the zip+4 transition for the New England service area.

Kathy was a kind, compassionate, and generous person, who always made time for friends and family, was a champion of dogs and cats whenever she found them lonely, and frequently handed out backpacks full of goodies to the homeless in her area. She made many friends along the way and will be greatly missed.

Kathy realized her dream of living in Southern California for the past 20 years, enjoying the warm sunshine and easy living without snow.

Kathy was predeceased by her parents; and her life partner, Lisa Polito, who died at a young age.

She is survived by her friend, roommate, partner and caregiver, Gerri Ziegler, who worked tirelessly to provide care and comfort. Surviving siblings are Bryant (Cynthia Jones) Bailey of North Carolina, Stuart (Sarah) Bailey of North Yarmouth, Douglas Bailey of El Dorado Hills, Calif., Harold (Debbie) Bailey of Gardiner, and Ferdinand Bailey of Baldwin. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, with whom she shared her video game talents over the years with many weekend sleepovers.

Kathy had requested there be no service.
