Barbara E. (Williams) Holmes

SCARBOROUGH – Barbara E. (Williams) Holmes, 77, of Scarborough, went home to God’s loving arms on Monday, Aug. 1, 2022 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House with loving family by her side.

She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, the love of her life, James D. Holmes.

Barbara was born on June 12, 1945 in Worcester, Mass., a daughter of the late Harrison and Rena (Morrison) Williams. Barbara graduated from Deering High School in Portland in 1963, after which she attended and graduated from Becker College, Mass. She was employed at GAB Robins in Scarborough, starting her career as a claims adjuster, working her way up to claims manager, where she was recognized for her work ethic and kindness. Barbara and Jim were married in 1965 in Portland and began to raise a family. Second only to the Lord, her family was the most important part of her life.

Barbara was passionate about giving her time to others, including volunteering at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. As an active member of the Rock Church for the past 20 years, she shared her faith everywhere she went. Known for her generosity, Barbara had a passion for serving in a multitude of ways at The Rock Church, including: Greeter, Member of Dare 2 Care Team, and working in the nursery holding the babies. Barbara lived her life with joy, making friends everywhere she went. She enjoyed travelling, bowling, playing slot machines, going to yard sales with close friends, reading, and above all else, spending time with her family and friends.

She will be sadly missed by her son Keith, her daughter-in-law, LoriAnn, her beloved granddaughter, Rebecca; and her dog, Obie, all of Central Maine. She also leaves behind her two sisters, Susan Williams of North Woodstock, N.H., and Jean Williams of Windham. Surviving cousins include Linda Farrell of Maine, Robert Holt and Albert Holt, both from Massachusetts, along with many family members of Jimmy’s and Barbara’s, including nieces and nephews and their families. In addition, she leaves behind many wonderful friends whom she loved as a part of her extended family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Barb’s life to be held on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 1 p.m. at The Rock Church of Scarborough, 66 Gorham Rd., Scarborough, ME 04074.
