While the Press Herald’s Aug. 14 editorial, “Our View: Validity of Mar-a-Lago raid must not be drowned out,” is quite right, it somehow left out the dismissive reaction of one of the Maine Republican Party’s most senior office holders, Sen. Susan Collins.
Upon hearing about the lawful search of Mar-a-Lago, Collins told WABI, “If, in fact, it only had to do with disputes over documents, this seems to me to be an excessive move on the part of the Justice Department.”
This was an incredibly blasé reaction from someone on the Intelligence Committee who surely knows better, and it looks even worse now that we know the documents were highly classified and had been subpoenaed but Trump did not comply with the order to give them back. This is a very serious national security matter, and Collins’ response should have been included in your editorial.
