The Standish woman whose car collided with a dump truck Wednesday afternoon on Route 113 in Standish was listed in critical condition Thursday evening by a spokesperson for Maine Medical Center.
Rebecca McVety, 32, of Standish was driving a 2004 Volvo when it collided head-on with a Leavitt Earthworks dump truck fully loaded with dirt. The truck driver, 55-year-old Erik Betters of Standish, was not injured. McVety’s 2-year-old daughter was seriously injured in the crash, but her condition was not available.
McVety’s vehicle apparently crossed the centerline into the path of the dump truck, striking it head-on, according to Capt. Donald Foss of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department. Each driver was wearing a seat belt and the toddler was securely fastened in a child safety seat, investigators determined. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Route 113 in Standish, near its intersection with Route 25, was closed to traffic for nearly five hours Wednesday.
