OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The sun may be high overhead and you may have sand between your toes, but the November election is coming — and it is time for municipal candidates to gather signatures for nomination to the ballot.

Three seats on the Old Orchard Beach Town Council and one Regional School Unit 23 Board seat are in the offing, as is a three-year term for town clerk in the Nov. 8 contest.

Nomination papers became available on Aug. 1 and are to be returned to the Town Clerk’s Office by close of business on Sept. 9.

Candidates in Old Orchard Beach run at large. To be on the ballot, candidates must gather no less than 25 and no more than 100 signatures of registered Old Orchard Beach voters, said Town Clerk Kim McLaughlin.

Three council seats, currently held by Ken Blow, Shawn O’Neill, and Michael Tousignant, are in the offing.

An RSU 23 seat, currently held by Sally Beatty, will also be on the ballot, as will the town clerk position, held by McLaughlin.
