Former teacher, student collaborate on book

Peggy Muir, a retired teacher who taught at Freeport High School from 1984 to 2008, and her former student, Lauren Almarode, have created a children’s book. “Luca and the Bookstore Stand Off” is about a visit to a bookstore by Peggy and her 4-year-old grandson, who refused to leave, saying, “We haven’t read ALL the books!” Alamode, who did the computerized illustrations, was brought up in Freeport and is a member of the class of 2000. She is an art teacher and artist in Florida.

Anna Farmer, of Falmouth, who attends Waynflete, is working with United Way of Southern Maine across all departments, gaining exposure to the entire organization and its needs.
Sarah Musaniwabo, of Portland, a recent graduate of Casco Bay High School, is serving as a team leader of Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Maine’s youngest members (ages 6-9), leading the group through transitions during their daily schedule.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
