George Eddie Latham
LITCHFIELD – George Eddie Latham, 89, passed away unexpectedly on July 24, 2022. Formerly of 35 Salem St. in Portland (Peaks Island), he was born on April 27, 1933, the son of Pete and Eva May (Leighton) Latham.
At a young age, he moved off Peaks Island and always loved to speak about helping on his sister’s farm in New Gloucester. He met the love of his life at a church social never looking back and they were married for 67 years before his wife Polly passed away on April 19, 2020.
Eddie worked for many years at New England Feeds on Commercial Street where he would walk to work. He raised his family on Salem Street where he enjoyed gardening, growing peaches and flowers that he would share with his neighborhood. He even made small bouquets for his favorite local tavern Ruskis where he loved to have coffee with his friends. One of the things he was determined to do this year was rototill his garden.
Eddie was an avid hunter and fisherman though out his life. He would be found hunting from opening day of deer season to the sunset of closing day at his camp in Sedgewick. If you ever meet Eddie you know about his hugs and handshakes plus his favorite greeting “Your in my heart.”
He will be sadly missed by his son Dicky, his daughter Donna and son-in- law Ralph Dobson; plus his fur babys Luna his dog, Emily his cat and his new kitten Georgie Boy; along with all of his family and friends.
Eddie you are in our heart today and will always be.
