CAPE ELIZABETH — The TD Beach to Beacon 10K in Cape Elizabeth is back after a two-year hiatus caused by the pandemic, and they are looking for volunteers.
It takes about 800 general volunteers and 100 medical volunteers to pull off the Aug. 6 event.
Approximately 8,000 runners from all over are expected to participate in the 2022 road race. Volunteers are being sought to serve as host families, work as flaggers at intersections, and help with the Kids Fun Run.
The 6.2-mile race will take place on Saturday, Aug. 6, in Cape Elizabeth beginning near the entrance to Crescent Beach State Park on Route 77 and ends in Fort Williams at the Portland Head Light.
Joan Benoit Samuelson, Olympic marathon gold medalist, and Cape Elizabeth native, founded the race in 1998 to benefit children’s charities in Maine. Every year a different charity is chosen. The TD Charitable Foundation, affiliated with TD Bank, announced that this year’s charity was The Cromwell Center for Disabilities Awareness; they will receive the TD Charitable Foundations’ annual $30,000 donation.
The race still has a few entry spots available. Registration is open on the race’s website. COVID vaccinations are required for all runners and volunteers. For more information, including volunteer opportunities, visit beach2beacon.org.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
