Public meeting to discuss plans for Bar Mills Dam
A public informational meeting about the fate of the Bar Mills Dam is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug, 2, in the Buxton municipal office meeting room, 185 Portland Road.
The purpose of the meeting is to inform the public of the proposed decommissioning and planned partial removal of the Bar Mills Project, discuss the potential environmental impacts of this initiative, and to educate the public about opportunities for public comment on the project.
Brookfield White Pine Hydro, LLC, a Brookfield Renewable company, owns and operates the Bar Mills Project, “a run-of-river dam located on the Saco River in Hollis,” according to its website.
The company notified Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in November 2020 of its intention to surrender its license (FERC No. 2194).
Food co-op hours
Buxton Community Food Co-op is now open 9-10 a.m. on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays on Long Plains Road in Buxton Center.
Town Hall closure
Buxton Town Hall will be closed Friday, Aug. 5, as municipal staff prepare for the town’s birthday celebration that weekend.
