SOMERVILLE — A Somerville man was killed late Saturday after crashing his motorcycle into a grove of trees off Valley Road.

Michael Hutchins, 47, died at the scene, according to a statement issued to the news media by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said their preliminary investigation indicated the 2002 Honda Shadow motorcycle Hutchins was riding was traveling southbound on Valley Road when it left the road and hit the trees.
The crash, reported at 11:27 p.m., occurred about a mile south of the Route 17 intersection.
Police said Hutchins was not wearing a helmet, and speed and alcohol are being investigated as factors in the crash.
Valley Road was closed for about two hours during the crash investigation. Traffic was detoured to alternate routes by Somerville firefighters. Augusta Rescue also responded to the scene.
