Dorothy Eva Meehan
NORTH YARMOUTH – Dorothy Eva Meehan passed away July 3, 2022 peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was born on Dec. 22, 1931 in Eastport, and her family moved to Portland when she was a young girl. After graduating from Deering High School, class of 1949, she worked as a bank teller before marrying Thomas E. Meehan, a decorated World War II veteran on May 23, 1953.
After living in Portland and Yarmouth, the family settled in North Yarmouth and there she raised six children on a beautiful farm where she resided for 58 years. Dorothy loved animals, especially dogs, and rescued many over the years. She was a gentle soul, friendly, kind, and loving. She was full of heart-wisdom and understanding, and never let anyone leave hungry.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Thomas; her second son, John; and her sisters Pat and Roberta.
She is survived by her son, Thomas and his wife Heather, her son, Stephen, her son, Michael and his wife Rebecca, her daughter, Mary and her husband Craig, her daughter, Caroline, and her daughter-in-law, Jackie. She is also survived by her grandchildren Bethany, Cailann, Deirdre, Michael, Molly, Finneas, Christian, Eva, CJ, Carli, Cody, Rachel, and Collin; and her great-grandchildren Lily, Sophie, Alice, Harrison, and baby Dorothy.
A memorial service will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in North Yarmouth on Sunday, July 24 at 1 p.m.
