Bangor Savings Bank Foundation has awarded more than $600,000 to organizations in Maine and New Hampshire. Local gifts include $5,500 each to Full Plates Full Potential in Brunswick, Portland Museum of Art and Westbrook-based Common Threads of Maine. The bank also awarded $250,000 each to Maine Public and Friends of Katahdin Woods & Waters.
Maine Cancer Foundation has awarded the largest sum of money dedicated to cancer screening resources in its 46-year history to address the high number of Mainers who missed lifesaving cancer screenings during the pandemic. Included in the $508,000 total were Greater Portland Health, $90,000, and MaineHealth – Maine Medical Center in Portland, $96,823.
The University of Southern Maine Foundation has received a gift of $850,000 from L.L. Bean, including $750,000 to support a new Career & Student Success Center and green campus quad, to be named the “Bean Green,” now under construction on USM’s Portland campus.

Maine Historical Society announced a new slate of officers at its 200th annual meeting June 4: Eileen F. Skinner, Falmouth, chair; Michael J. Cianchette, Portland, 1st vice chair; Laura F. Sprague, Portland, 2nd vice chair; Bob Greene, Minot, secretary; and Drew Swenson, Portland, treasurer.
Sebago Technics announced the following promotions and achievements within its Transportation Team: Bradley Lyon, promoted to vice president of transportation engineering; Curtis Thompson, elevated to senior traffic operations engineer/project manager; Nikki Conant, elevated to senior transportation engineer/project manager; and Shane Kelly, elevated to senior transportation engineer/project manager.
Longtime partner Scott Anderson is the new managing partner at Verrill, replacing Keith Jones, who is stepping down after 13 years in the role. In related news, Verrill partner Robert Ruesch was recently elected to American Bar Association’s Forum on Construction Law’s Governing Committee.
Rebecca Hatfield, senior vice president of real estate at Avesta Housing, has been chosen to succeed Dana Totman as president and CEO upon Totman’s retirement in September.
