The Scarborough Land Trust has added Tom Nolan to its Board of Directors.
Nolan was born and raised in Butler, a rural town in Pennsylvania.
He spent a lot of time playing outside, all year long, and especially loved winter. He was involved in Scouting
and is an Eagle Scout. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and started his career as a nurse
anesthetist in Ohio. He met his wife, Charlotte, while living in Cincinnati. They’ve been married for 27
years.
In September 1998, Tom and Charlotte vacationed in Maine. They were hooked and moved to Harpswell in April of 1999.
Moving to Harpswell was a life-changing event for both of them. They’d been urban dwellers in Ohio but in Harpswell they heated their home with wood that Tom cut, split and stacked himself. They bought a boat, got interested in camping and hiking and took a walk along the “Knife Edge” on Mt. Katahdin. During this time, Tom started to become a dedicated DIY’er and a woodworker.
Tom and Charlotte moved to Bridgton for his practice in 2006. They continued to embrace what they thought was the life-style that they were meant for. They made some wonderful friends who introduced Tom to farming, logging, maple sugaring and living off of the land.
Tom and Charlotte moved to Scarborough in 2017 to be close to the ocean. Tom retired in 2018.
During his years of practice, he served on a number of professional and hospital committees and boards of directors. He has served on the board of several homeowner associations and churches. Presently, Tom is the president/secretary of his homeowners association’s board of directors, a trustee at Blue Point Congregational Church and the secretary of the Crooked River Masonic Lodge, where he is a Master Mason. Tom is the volunteer land steward for SLT at Fuller Farm and Blue Point Preserve where he enjoys bringing in volunteers, instructing them and working alongside them.
