The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of a head-on collision in the town of Hanover that killed two men early Sunday morning.
Chief Deputy James Urquhart identified the victims as Nathaniel Skillin, 36, of Dixfield and Rodger Beaudoin, 55, of Berlin, New Hampshire. Skillin and Beaudoin were the drivers. Two passengers in Beaudoin’s car were transported to local hospitals for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.
Witnesses told police that Skillin’s vehicle, a 2002 Volvo, was heading east on Route 2 when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with Beaudoin’s 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser, which was traveling in the westbound lane. The crash took place around 2:04 a.m.
The passengers in Beaudoin’s vehicle, which caught fire after the collision, were able to escape the burning wreckage. They were identified as Jody Houle, 45, of Berlin, New Hampshire, and Ricardy Roseaux, 36, of Rumford. Beaudoin died inside the vehicle.
Urquhart said that road conditions and driver impairment may have contributed to the crash, which remains under investigation.
