The Colby women’s hockey team received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III tournament when the 10-team field was announced Sunday night, and the Mules drew a matchup on the road against Plattsburgh State in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Colby lost 2-1 in overtime to Amherst in the New England Small College Athletic Conference final.
BASEBALL
ST. JOSEPH’S SPLITS: Ronan Chisholm scored on a sacrifice fly by Jackson Stanton in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Monks (1-1) salvaged a doubleheader split with a 5-4 win over Illinois College (2-3) in Winter Haven, Florida.
Stanton hit an RBI triple during a three-run third inning for the Monks.
Illinois College had two seven-run innings in the opener on the way to a 19-2 win. St. Joseph’s got its runs on RBI singles by Zach Mills and Logan Dee.
GEORGE WASHINGTON 12, MAINE 4: Derek Ripp was 3 for 4 with three RBI and two runs scored the Colonials (3-7) beat the Black Bears (2-7) in Washington.
Colby Emmertz was 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI for Maine.
RPI SWEEPS BATES: Jack Moncur drove in three runs in the first game, and Martin Marintche went 4 for 5 with three RBI in Game 2 as the Engineers (3-1) picked up a pair of wins over the Bobcats (2-4) in Troy, New York.
Jack Brennan homered for Bates in the second game, and Ben Genser had two RBI in the 9-6 loss.
Kevin Lucey and John Nowak each hit an RBI single for the Bobcats in Game 1 – a 6-2 RPI victory.
MEN’S LACROSSE
MORAVIAN 18, ST. JOSEPH’S 11: The Greyhounds (1-1) took an eight-goal lead early in the second quarter and cruised past the Monks (0-3) in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Connor James had five goals and three assists for Moravian.
Timothy Goodfellow scored three goals, while Calvin Heline and Noah Tierney-Honan each had two for St. Joseph’s.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
WHEATON 16, U. of NEW ENGLAND 5: Jessie Kilburn had five goals and three assists as the Lyons (2-1) beat the Nor’easters (0-4) in Biddeford.
Abby McHallam led UNE with two goals.
SOFTBALL
ST. JOSEPH’S 5, RIVIER 4: Olivia Howe drove in designated runner Taylor Owen with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning, lifting the Monks to a victory in a mutual season opener in Leesburg, Florida.
Howe and Bailey Rassol each had two of their team’s 11 hits. The Monks forced extra innings with an unearned run in the seventh.
