When does a library become a foodie destination?

When it hosts a block party with food vendors, food trucks and fun activities for the whole family. Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick is inviting everyone to its Winter Carnival from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, March 5 (snow date March 12). Arrayed along Middle Street in front of the library will be a hot cocoa bar with Dunkin’ Munchkins and a Gelato Fiasco scoop station. There will be two food trucks with tidbits available for purchase: Plot Twist Pretzels (a new soft-pretzel bakery) and Maiz Colombian Street Food.

Don’t forget the Produce for All program at The Sharing Table, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays by the Middle Street entrance. The Merrymeeting Gleaners and Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program provide fresh veggies for everyone and anyone to pick up and enjoy for free.

Food and other news

Maine Restaurant Week, March 1-12, has 48 participating restaurants so far that are offering specially priced prix fixe meals and other discounts. There is a list at mainerestaurantweek.com/restaurants for your planning convenience. Noble Kitchen + Bar at the Brunswick Hotel is a local participant.

Bravo Maine will host a Hands-on Baking Class that’s all about cannoli from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, March 3. Make the luscious Italian dessert from scratch under the guidance of a professional chef. $55 at eventbrite.com. 559 Brighton Ave., Portland, 415-4482.

Bissell Brothers Dinner 2, their second five-course beer dinner featuring five of their special brews, is March 7. There are two seatings: 5-7 p.m. and 8-10 p.m. at 38 Resurgam Place, Portland. $110/guest including gratuity at eventbrite.com. The taproom will be closed to the public for this event.

Nikaline Iacono, owner of Vessel and Vine in Brunswick, will teach a virtual shaken cocktails class at 6 p.m. March 12. The cost is $75 and benefits Oasis Free Clinics, also in Brunswick. cookingwithoasis.org/on-the-menu.

The Met Coffee House, 48 Main St., Freeport, opened Feb. 12. It features an interesting breakfast and lunch menu, hot and cold specialty coffees, “over the top hot chocolates” (per the Visit Freeport website), pastries and desserts. Open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day.
