Brunswick’s Town Council canceled a public hearing on a proposed ordinance that would ban the sale of flavored tobacco products just a day before the Feb. 22 hearing was set to take place.
The cancellation was the result of concern the council had failed to give the public notice as required by Maine statute, according to a report in the Times Record.
The proposed ban would cover tobacco and nicotine products including cigarettes, e-cigarettes and chewing tobacco. If passed, it would become the third such ban in the state, after Bangor and Portland passed similar measures.
The council is likely to reschedule the hearing for sometime in April, according to the town website.
