Gilbert B. “Gil” Leclerc

TALLMADGE, Ohio – Gilbert B. “Gil” Leclerc, 92, of Tallmadge, Ohio died on Feb. 9, 2022.

Gil was born and raised in Sanford where he attended St. Ignatius High School. Gil and his brother, Ben, attended and graduated together in 1950 from St. Michael’s College in Wenoski, Vt.

Gil was employed by Goodall-Sanford textile mills, Pacific Mills and General Tire (Bolta Plant) in Lawrence, Mass. Gil and his family transferred to Akron, Ohio in 1967 with General Tire from which Gil retired in 1991 after 34 years of service.

Gil was a veteran of the Army during the Korean War; a long-standing member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church; and an avid golfer and bowler.

Gil was preceded in death five short weeks ago by his partner for life and loving wife of 67 years, Lucille (Brochu) Leclerc; and in 1987 by his daughter, Sandra Ann Leclerc.

Gil prided himself on the loving care, upbringing and support of Lou and their five children. His proudest accomplishment was seeing his children complete their college educations debt-free.

Gil and Lou treasured their retirement years traveling across the U.S. and snow-birding in Pompano Beach, Fla. and Myrtle Beach, S.C. and spending time with their grandchildren.

Gil is survived by his son, Steven (Cheryl), and daughters Donna Kane, Debra (Michael) Rankine and Lynda (Amanda) Leclerc; as well as grandchildren Ryan (Hayley) Kane, Kristen Kane, Jacquelin (Jeff Hamilton) Rankine, Brian (Lauren) Rankine, Stephanie Leclerc, Dylan Glauer, Zoe Boxill, Elaina Glauer and Mia Boxill; and great-grandchildren, Eli Kane, Logan Kane and Maxwell Kane.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at KentRidge where Gil resided since June of 2020. Special thanks to Lisa Moore for always bringing a smile to Gil’s face and keeping him out of trouble; to all the nurses and care partners in memory care and the staff from Traditions Health who took such wonderful care of Gil in his final months.
