David Jalbert

SOUTH PORTLAND – David Jalbert, 60, of South Portland, passed away peacefully on Feb. 6, 2022. David was born in Farmington to Hilda and John Jalbert. He attended local schools and graduated from Mt. Blue High School in 1980 where he was a standout runner and temporarily held the state record in the 220-yard dash.

He served in the Army Signal Corps from 1980-1985, completing his basic training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina before spending three years stationed in Heilbronn Germany. Having a lifelong passion for history, Dave took great pleasure in traveling Europe and seeing many historical sites. After leaving the Army he spent nearly 30 years in the window manufacturing business, first as a production worker and eventually working his way up into management.

David married Mary Feeney in 1991 and they have two sons, Andrew (24) and Joseph (22). He enjoyed baseball, golf and hiking but these activities were curtailed during his 25-year battle with MS. It did not prevent him from being a wonderful husband and father, always making sure his family was taken care of, and he never failed to remind them to drive carefully.

David is survived by his five siblings, Sandra (Paul) Benito of Warwick, R.I., Carol (James) Bouffard of Jay, Stephanie (Larry) Yarmaloff of Windham, Michael (Liz) Jalbert of Kempner, Texas and Ron (Cherie) Jalbert of New Vineyard. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Toni Feeney of Portland; and brothers/sisters-in-law Laura Feeney, Bill and Tracy Feeney, Barbara and Tom Marshall; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Vatche Tchekmedyian and Dave’s physical therapist Sharon for their extraordinary care. A celebration of life will be held in the spring, arrangements are by Hobbs Funeral Home.
