Bruce W. Bohrmann
YARMOUTH – Bruce W. Bohrmann, 93, died peacefully of natural causes at his home in Yarmouth on Feb. 8, 2022.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Judy, and is survived by his five children, Bucky, Erich, Brady married to Martha (Sawyer), Vicky married to Joel Hughes and Andrew; in addition to his six grandchildren, Benjamin, Ford, Alden, Maggie, Ian and Owen.
Bruce was born July 27, 1928 in Chatham, N.J. Growing up he worked at the family printing press with his older brother, Bub. In high school and at college he played basketball and football.
He served in the Korean War, was honorably discharged and attended Marlboro College on the G.I. Bill, earning a degree in English. In 1956 he married Judith Mack, started a family and moved to Maine in 1969.
He was best known for his handmade hunting and fishing knives that were sold to sportsmen and collectors all over the world. He worked at Casco Bank in public relations, The Muddy Rudder Restaurant as a bartender and Thomas Moser Cabinetmakers.
An enthusiastic supporter of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, his passion occasionally earned him a red card or scolding from an official.
He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and loved Larry Bird’s Celtics.
Bruce was a kind, gentle and generous man, a loyal friend who always saw the good in people. He had an ever present, mischievous sense of humor and was a master of the pun.
At the age of 90 he was fortunate to meet Janet, a lovely woman from Brunswick, thoroughly enjoying the last years of his life.
Bruce loved big band jazz, swing dancing, bagpipes, buckskin shirts, musicals and mountain men.
Reading A.B. Guthrie’s “The Big Sky” inspired a deep interest in American frontier culture which led him to become an expert marksman and custom knife maker.
At the age of 88, Bruce fulfilled a lifelong dream by traveling to Montana, where he rode a horse for the first time.
