Jesse Charles Philbrick Sr.

SACO – Jesse Charles Philbrick Sr., 99, passed away at his home on the Ross Road on Feb. 9, 2022. He was born on June 12, 1922 in Saco the son of Charles and Bertha Kimball Philbrick.

He graduated from Thornton Academy and married his high school sweetheart Dorothy Smith Philbrick, they were married over 70 years until her passing in 2013. Jesse served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II.

After his service he worked as a mechanic for Stackpoles Garage on Water Street in Saco. He later owned and operated his own automotive repair business on the Ross Road from 1959 until 1986.

Jesse was a member of the United Baptist Church in Saco since 1942, where he was the oldest member and was Deacon and an usher.

Jesse was also a member of Saco Masonic Lodge #9 AF& AM.

He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Philbrick; a son, Jesse Philbrick Jr. and daughter, Audrey Sawyer.

He is survived by sons Terrence Philbrick Sr. and his wife Peggy of Warrensville, N.C. and Vincent Philbrick and his wife LuBelle of Las Vegas, daughters Joleen Philbrick of Saco and Wanda Chelate and her husband Adam of Saco, a son-in-law, Orrin Sawyer of Saco; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Southern Maine for their great care of Jesse in his final days and also close family friend Nancy Blunt.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday Feb. 15 at 11 a.m. at the United Baptist Church of Saco, Main Street, Saco. Rev. Beverly Lowell will officiate. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest next to his wife, Dorothy.
