Westbrook Housing is urging current Section 8 and Housing Choice Voucher waitlist applicants to update their information by Feb. 17 to keep their applications active.
As part of an upgrade to the state’s centralized housing waitlist system shared by local housing authorities, including Westbrook’s, waitlist applicants must ensure their information is up to date to be notified of available Section 8 or voucher housing opportunities once the new system is in place. Failure to update information will result in withdrawal from the waiting list, according to Westbrook Housing.
“It is absolutely imperative that applicants update their information to stay on the list,” Christine Syska, voucher director for Westbrook Housing, said in a press release. “All applicants should update immediately. This will enable their application to stay active so they can be promptly contacted with any available (housing opportunities).”
Applicants must update applications themselves; participating housing authorities are currently unable to update applications in the new system.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
