ALFRED — David Lambert of Biddeford was working at the Nike factory in his hometown many years ago when he decided to make a career change. On Jan. 15, 1985, he became a corrections officer at York County Jail.
Now, more than 37 years later, after several promotions through the ranks over the years, Lambert was promoted to captain in ceremonies Friday at the jail.
Donovan Cram of Hollis, a former carpenter and security officer, was promoted to corporal. He has worked at York County Jail for close to six years, said Sheriff William King.
Joshua Morneau of Kennebunk was promoted to sergeant in the York County Sheriff’s Office patrol division.
Sheriff William King said all three have earned their promotions.
“I can personally attest to his dedication and commitment not only to the county but to the residents we care for,” said King of Lambert. “I watched him walk around and greet officers, as well as residents, with a cheerful smile and words of encouragement.” He described Lambert as a “true leader.”
Cram is “a quiet steady man,” King said. “When he applied to become a corrections officer, we recognized his maturity and ability to lead.”
Morneau, of Kennebunk has been a police officer for 17 years, starting in his hometown and then moving on to Eliot, where he attained the rank of sergeant, and later went to work at the York County Sheriff’s Office.
“He quickly distinguished himself as an outstanding investigator and was assigned to the Detectives Bureau and was formally recognized for investigative excellence,” King said.
As is tradition, the three had their badges pinned by family members, Lambert by his wife, Judy; Cram by his mother, Trina; and Morneau by his wife, Natalia.
