FALMOUTH – On a beautiful sunny morning, Joan Renke, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully and with everlasting love from her family.
Born in New York, she graduated from SUNY Stony Brook. She was married to Roger, the love of her life, for 57 years. Together they raised a family in Setauket, N.Y. and were dedicated science teachers for 35 years at Smithtown High School.
In 1996, Joan and Roger retired to Waitsfield, Vt. where they built their dream home and provided enduring memories for their three grandchildren. Her later years were spent in Falmouth where she continued to make close friends.
She was an EMT, community volunteer, and guardian ad litem, and enjoyed her time with the local garden club and neighborhood book club. Joan was a world traveler who loved planning vacations and family celebrations.
Joan is survived by Roger; children Keith and Christine, son-in-law, Steven; and the absolute loves of her life, her grandchildren Nick, Leah and Lila.
Joan’s family would like to thank all of the healthcare professionals at Massachusetts General Hospital and The Gosnell House/Hospice of Southern Maine. There will be a celebration of life in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Maine Cancer Foundation.
