Local Republicans to caucus Feb. 12
The Gorham Republican Committee will caucus Saturday, Feb. 12, at Moody’s Collision Center, 200 Narragansett St. The doors will open at 9 a.m. for registration and the meeting will begin at 10 a.m. All Gorham Republicans are invited. A municipal clerk will attend from 9:30-10 a.m. to process voter registrations; unregistered voters can enroll in the party and attend the caucus.
General assistance
As a reminder, the Gorham Welfare Department offers general assistance to help eligible residents with basic necessities. The program provides confidential financial assistance to Gorham residents who are having difficulty meeting their needs for shelter, food, fuel, utility payments and medical expenses. 50 years ago
The American Journal reported Feb. 2, 1972, that Seaman Ovide Nugent was serving in the Mediterranean Sea aboard USS Suffolk County. Nugent, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Nugent Jr. of White Rock, spent Christmas in Monaco and saw the changing of the guard at the palace.

The Bureau of the Fiscal Service reported on Jan. 27 that the U.S. public debt was $29,924,269,641,846.11.
